How to Prepare for Your Boudoir Session Without the Stress

May 21, 20256 min read

So, you’ve booked your boudoir session—yay! But now comes the next part: preparing for your shoot. If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed, that’s completely normal! It’s not every day that you take time out for a personal, intimate experience like this, so it’s only natural to have a few questions about what to expect. Don’t worry, though—I’ve got your back. I’m here to guide you through a stress-free prep process that will leave you feeling confident, comfortable, and excited for your session!

Here’s how to prepare for your boudoir shoot, with all the tips, tricks, and comforting insights you need:

1. Start with Your Mindset: It's All About You

The first step in preparing for your boudoir session is getting into the right mindset. This is your experience—a chance to celebrate your body, your confidence, and your personal journey. Whether you’re doing this for yourself or a special someone, remember that you are beautiful, worthy, and deserving of this empowering moment.

If this is your first boudoir shoot, it’s totally normal to feel a little nervous. You might have worries about how to pose, what to wear, or even how you’ll look in the photos. Trust me: I will guide you every step of the way, and you’re going to shine.

2. Outfit Prep: Keep It Comfortable, But Stylish

One of the most common questions I get asked is: “What do I wear?” The truth is, you want to bring what makes you feel comfortable and sexy—because confidence shines through in every image. Whether it’s a lace bodysuit, a silk robe, or your favorite lingerie set, choose items that make you feel beautiful and empowered.

One of the BEST things a woman can do before her Houston Boudoir Photoshoot is to go get properly fitted by an expert. You'd be surprised what a well fitting quality piece can do for your confidence and nerves. My advice? Head over to Top Drawer Lingerie, a local Lingerie boutique and get fitted by one of their professional bra fitters. They'll also help you choose lingerie that you will feel AMAZING in. Trust me, you'll leave eager to get your boudoir session started.

On the other hand, we also have lingerie options at our studio that you can wear as well! I’m thrilled to offer you access to my exclusive client closet, so you don’t have to stress about buying new outfits. I have a variety of sizes and styles, ranging from lace lingerie to cozy robes, that can perfectly suit your vision for the shoot. Although I highly recommend going to see an expert in person.

Or maybe you know your size and you're pretty confident you can find something on your own. That's an option too! Here are my top outfit suggestions to shop for.

Outfit Suggestions:

  • Lingerie Sets: A classic choice! Opt for pieces that fit well and make you feel confident.

  • Silk Robes: These add a touch of elegance and sensuality, perfect for wrapping up the session with some soft, dreamy shots.

  • Your Partner’s Favorite Shirt: If you’re not into lingerie, nothing beats a button-down shirt or sweater for a comfy yet sultry look.

  • Client Closet Access:

Remember: comfort is key! You’re going to be moving around, so make sure your outfit feels good.

3. Hair and Makeup: Feel Like Your Best Self

Want to feel pampered before your session? I highly recommend adding on a professional hair and makeup artist to your package. They’ll help you feel gorgeous and ensure that your hair and makeup look flawless throughout the shoot.

But if you’re a DIY kind of gal, no worries! Here are a few tips:

  • Hair: Loose waves or soft curls are timeless and flattering. If you prefer straight hair, just make sure it’s freshly washed so it’s easy to manage.

  • Makeup: Keep it simple! Focus on enhancing your features. A bit of foundation, mascara, and a bold lip can go a long way in helping you feel your best.

Don’t forget: the goal is to feel like yourself while looking radiant. The key to great boudoir photos is confidence, and confidence starts with feeling like your most beautiful self.

4. What to Expect on the Day of Your Shoot

When you arrive at the studio, I’ll make sure you feel relaxed and at ease. I believe that boudoir photography should be fun and empowering, not stressful or intimidating. We'll have the snacks, drinks, music, and conversation flowing!

Here’s what will happen on the day of your session:

  • Arrive and Prep for Your Session: We'll get you glammed up and feeling good with professional hair and make-up. I'll help you pick out your specific outfits and combine options that you will love.

  • Guided Posing: You won’t have to worry about how to pose—I'm here to direct you and make sure you look flawless in every shot. From your hands to your feet, I'll walk you through the poses to ensure you feel confident and radiant.

  • Same Day Viewing: You will be able to see your images the exact same day, 30 minutes after your session! This is everyone's favorite part. You'll see a slide show viewing of over 80 images and I will personally help you choose your favorites.

  • Private Experience: Because I believe in a private and personalized experience, you won’t see any of yours or other boudoir images publicly shared. This is your journey, and you have full control over your photos and how they are shared.

5. Hydrate, Rest, and Relax Before the Session

Take care of your body leading up to your boudoir session! This isn’t the time to try to “lose weight” or feel pressure to look a certain way. You’re already perfect as you are. That being said, here are some prep tips to help you feel your best:

  • Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water the day before your session. This helps with your skin, energy, and overall glow.

  • Sleep well: Get a good night’s sleep before the shoot. Resting will help you feel refreshed and ready to embrace the experience.

  • Eat light but nourishing: You don’t want to feel bloated or sluggish. A healthy, light meal will keep you energized without making you feel heavy.

  • Other tips: Try to stay out of the sun to avoid harsh tan lines or red skin. Avoid making any other important plans that day. You want to enjoy and flow without worrying about having to rush out and get somewhere else. When you're done with your session, I highly encourage you to go and do something relaxing and life-giving for YOU!

6. Your Session, Your Way

Above all, this session is about you. Whether you’re booking this as a gift to your partner or as a way to celebrate yourself, remember that the most important thing is your comfort and your joy. Boudoir is about reclaiming your sexuality in a way that preserves the sacredness of your body and seeing yourself in a new light, and I’m honored to be part of that journey with you.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here to ensure you feel comfortable, empowered, and excited for the experience!
