Christian Boudoir FAQ Guide:
Honoring Your Faith, Modesty, and Beauty Through Photography
Curious how boudoir photography can align with your Christian values? You’re not alone. Many women of faith wonder if boudoir is “too much,” too exposed, or just too far outside the lines of what feels spiritually safe within their convictions.
But Christian boudoir — when done intentionally — can be one of the most healing, redemptive, and God-honoring experiences you’ll ever say yes to.
In this guide, I’ll walk you through the most common questions I receive as a Christian boudoir photographer in Houston, TX — including scripture, session structure, modesty and privacy concerns, and real client stories that show how boudoir can be done differently and sacredly.
For the purposes of this guide, I will define what boudoir and boudoir photography is according to Merriam-Webster:
Boudoir- historically means "a woman's bedroom, private room, or dressing room"
Boudoir Photography- "a photographic style that captures intimate, sensual, and romantic images, often with a private or personal touch, typically in a studio or private setting"
So then Boudoir photography, in essence, is photography of a woman who is within her 'boudoir' (private bedroom or dressing room). The words boudoir and photography could be seen as contradictory, because boudoir is private and photography makes things seen.
1. Does Boudoir Photography go against Biblical Principals?
Obviously, there’s no direct reference to boudoir in the Bible, but scripture is full of reminders that:
Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)
We are to honor our bodies as temples (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
Beauty is spiritual, emotional, and physical (Song of Solomon, Proverbs 31:25)
Christian boudoir doesn’t glorify sensuality for the world’s sake — it invites women to reclaim their beauty and worth through God’s lens.
When done with modesty and intention, boudoir becomes less about lingerie and more about light, truth, and freedom. It becomes a place for women to practice accepting their bodies as fearfully and wonderfully made in a whole new way.
While traditional boudoir photography is publicized for the world to see, Christian Boudoir Photography takes back the original meaning and makes it PRIVATE again, thus preserving the sacredness of a woman's boudoir, the marriage bed, and the marriage covenant.
2. But doesn't the Bible Call Us To Be Modest?
Before we move forward, lets get clear on the definition of modesty. According to Merriam-Webster modesty means "the quality of not being too proud or confident about yourself or your abilities" and "propriety in dress, speech, or conduct".
Propriety, which is the golden word to help us truly understand modesty, means "conformity to what is socially acceptable in conduct or speech".
So, does the bible call us to be modest? Not exactly. But there are scriptures about how women should dress and behave in public spaces (1 Timothy 2:9-10 and 1 Peter 3:3-4). There are also scriptures about how we should present ourselves for the sake of others who may not be to far along in their faith, to keep them from stumbling (Philippians 2:4, 1 Corinthians 10:24). We are also called to preserve the innocence of children (Matthew 18:6).
Modesty isn’t about hiding — it’s about honoring your body in a way that feels safe, empowered, and aligned with your convictions.
With that being said, many women believe that modesty means covering up your body, but that is only part of it. Yes, we are called to cover our bodies from the worldly gaze to protect others and ourselves (Proverbs 4:23), BUT we are called to UNCOVER ourselves in our boudoir and in the covenant of marriage (1 Corinthians 7:4-5). So then, modesty is knowing when to cover and when to uncover, and to do that with holy discernment for the sake of honoring those around us, our own bodies, our marriage, and our God.
On a practical note, I offer Christian boudoir sessions that prioritize:
Coverage that feels comfortable and empowering, not objectifying and sleazy. I do NOT photograph nude. This protects me as a fellow believer and you as my client.
Posing that’s flattering and focusing on showing my clients different sides to themselves to help them embrace their insecurities. I want you to feel beautiful and sexy, but not oversexualized.
Wardrobe styling that includes cozy knits, soft robes, bodysuits, and even everyday pieces that hold meaning, because not everyone is comfortable in lingerie, and you don't have to be!
You can look powerful, soft, and beautiful — without baring it all.
3. What if I Don’t Love My Body Right Now?
First of all, THAT isn't biblical. Second of all, that’s exactly why this experience is for you!
When God created you, he said "it was good" (Genesis 1:31), so for you to say your body or anything about you is not good, is a lie from hell. You were made in his image, both inside and out. You are literally a walking reflection of God to the world!
If you are struggling to not only accept but to LOVE your body, meditate on these scriptures:
Psalm 139:14: "I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well,"
Romans 12:1-2: "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship," (you are a holy sacrifice and a pleasing aroma to the Lord! That includes your body and all it's been through. It's all for His glory).
Ephesians 2:10 – "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned in advance for us to do".
Christian boudoir isn’t about showing off a perfect body. It’s about confronting the lies you’ve believed about your body and yourself— and seeing yourself the way God already does: beautiful, redeemed, and worthy.
This experience is designed to:
Shift your mindset around body image
Help you appreciate the story your body tells
Give you a tangible reminder (your images!) of your strength, softness, and sacred beauty
You don’t have to wait until you “get in shape” or “feel ready.” God works powerfully through the now.
4. Will my images be shared publicly?
No. I believe that Boudoir Photography was always meant to be private. Social media has built a culture where we feel like we have to share everything to everybody, but that isn't what we are called to as Christians. We do not cast our pearls before swine!
All of our Boudoir Sessions are completely private. If my clients do sign a media release it would be for documenting their hair and make-up transformation, their reactions in photos, etc. Clients can also give written permission to share select images to our private boudoir portfolio— and many of my clients choose to keep every image personal.
Your privacy is sacred here.
That’s why my website, blog, and social media don’t rely on sharing client Boudoir galleries. I don’t believe you or any other client should have to expose your body online to book a session. Your comfort, trust, faith, and boundaries matter more.
5. What Makes a Christian Boudoir Session Different?
Aside from everything mentioned previously, every part of the experience is designed to:
Make you feel spiritually safe
Encourage emotional healing and self-compassion
Allow you to bring your faith into the process
That means:
You can play worship music during your session
We can open or close with prayer
You’ll be guided through poses and affirmations that uplift, not objectify
This is boudoir that respects your story and reclaims your view of your body.
6. Can I bring scripture or symbolic items to my session?
Absolutely. Clients can feel free to bring:
A journal or scripture card
A piece of jewelry that reminds them of God’s faithfulness
Wedding veils, crosses, or family heirlooms
Anything that reminds them of their beauty and strength
